Nose Surgery also known as rhinoplasty, a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the appearance and proportion of your nose thus enhancing facial harmony.

      - Rhinoplasty can change:

The technique used willdepend on the surgical goal. Incisions will be placed inside your nose. Sometimes a very short incision is made across the vertical strip of tissue that separates the nostrils called the columella. This technique is called an "open rhinoplasty”. The incisions used, will ultimately be very inconspicuous. 

Through these incisions, work is done on the cartilage and bone that form the framework of your nose.

Sometimes, the position of certain bones may need to be altered in order to make your nose look narrower and straighter. If your nose needs to be built up in some areas, this can be done using cartilage, bone or an implant. The skin and soft tissues then re-drape themselves over this new framework. 

If the base of the nose is narrowed or the nostrils reduced, small wedges of skin at the base of the nostrils will be removed. Incisions are hidden in the natural crease where the nostril joins the cheek. 

General after care & Post-operative course:

You need to be admitted in the hospital for 12-24 hrs. Generally a splint or some tape will be applied over your nose for 5-7 days to maintain the shape given to nose. There will be some temporary swelling, discoloration of nose & surrounding area for initial few days that will ultimately go away. You need to keep your head end elevated for 3-4 weeks as advised. You should protect the nose from direct sunlight for the first three to six months after surgery. Make your first sun exposure after advice of your doctor only. Once daily steam inhalation for two or three months after the surgery is helpful for easy breathing and beneficial to prevent any kind of dryness in side the healing nose. You should not perform heavy exercises for the first two weeks after surgery & never play with your nose. This will increase the chance of scarring and may disturb the shape of your nose. Avoid any kind of trauma to newly operated nose.

Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait up to one year to see the final result.  However your new look is visible within few weeks of your surgery.

The results of rhinoplasty are permanent, except for possible changes associated with the normal aging process.

Some example cases:

Any kind of cut noses (after animal bite or human bite or accidents) can be repaired using principals of reconstructive surgery. Though after reconstructive rhinoplasty, the nose can be created or constructed very well, But their might be some kind of visible scarring over the face or nose.
